UK Countdown…

Right so on my lunch-break today I’ve written out a new ‘To-Do’ list of things I have to get done before I head to the UK…. here’s what it is so far…
- Sort my medication incl. sleeping pills for the flight
- 11.Nov – Kinda half done but I have to go back just before I leave
- 8.Jan – Gonna sort this in my last week here.
- 31.Jan – Had a DVT scare so went to the docs last week and got sleeping pills and meds.
- Cancel car insurance with State as of 1st Dec
- 7.Jan – Doneburger!
- Apply for YHA membership
- 11.Nov – Doneburger!
- Book accommodation at YHA Oxford – dates of Feb 13th til ???
- 8.Jan – No need now cos Amelia and Mike (the Newlyweds!) are putting me up for two days til I fly up to Newcastle.
- Apply for UK bank account through ANZ
- Done early Dec
- 14.Jan – Received docs in mail!!
- Ring Vodafone to make sure cellphone is good to go
- 31.Jan – Crap I keep forgetting this!

- Get special locks for suitcase
- 11.Nov – Received in the mail today yippeeee!
- Visit friends
- Havin a partaaaaay near the end of Jan which will solve that one
- 8.Jan – Partaaaaay is all booked for 24th Jan.
- Copy my treasured photos for my album
- 31.Jan – Done last Sunday
Also copied them to a CD which I have now put onto my laptop

- Sell all crap on Trademe ie. cd’s / books / bags / cookie jar
- 11.Nov – This is a work in progress but I’ve sold the cookie jar, damn near sold all my cd’s and just have my books and bags to go.
- Ring IRD re: Student Loan
- 7.Jan – Doneburger! Have assigned mum as the person to handle my account…. got a repayment holiday of 3 years.
- Do paperwork to sign car over to Emma
- 11.Nov – Not selling my car to Emma anymore so have listed it on Trademe and parked outside work with a FOR SALE sign on it… here’s hoping!
- 8.Jan – Mum and Dad are either gonna keep the car or sell it after I’m gone (they gave me the $$ I needed to open a UK bank account)
- Cancel Telecom account (on prepay at mo)
- Photocopy all important dox and scan to Gmail.
- 12.Jan – Doneburger!
- Sort life insurance and leave dox with Mum and Dad

- Get medical history printed
- 8.Jan – Do in my last week in NZ
- Wedding present for Amelia?? (Mandy and Dave’s wedding = wishing well $$)
- 11.Nov – Amelia and Mikes wedding present is wishing well scenario too.
- 8.Jan – Whoooops forgot to donate to A&M’s wedding! My bad….
- Birthday present for Emma (was on 26/9 but will give to her when I drop the car off)
- 11.Nov – Emma’s not speaking to me right now so this is dead in the water.
- Confirm allocation of seating on flight
- 11.Nov – Have emailed Janelle @ Flight Centre re: this but can’t do it just yet.
- 8.Jan – She has requested a seat but not confirmed til I check-in
- Buy Oyster Card online

Right so that’s the list…. as I complete things I will alter it and probably end up adding things to it as well hahaha
OMG you’re taking out life insurance?? what for? just get travel insurance and you’ll be fine.
As for locks, i’ll email adrian and get the website for you, they were really cheap and you only need it for the zips you are using on your main luggage. 100ml containers…same website as locks…will get for you.
Photocopy every at…you know where…leave a paper copy with ya folks, and email it to yourself, dont put on pendrive coz you could lose it and anyone can access it, whereas your email they need a password to get into. Next time you’re in a mall drop into Vodafone, so its one less thing you gotta worry about when ya leave and that way if you need to buy a new phone it gives you time to save. Seats on plane….dont get a window seat…its annoying if you need to pee. Make sure you get your money changed at least a week before you leave and ring before hand incase they have to order it in. and go through travelex and tell them you have a YHA card coz it wont cost you anything to change…ANZ charge 1%
Otherwise….looking good and remember to not pack everythng…you can buy stuff once you’re here…pack light!

I’m still waiting for the travel agent chick to get back to me about the seat allocation cos you can’t do it til a certain amount of time before the flight but I should be able to get one of those seats without anyone in front of ya – near the doors.
I’ve got life insurance with Kiwibank on my credit card and when I said I was going to move to Oz (which I was at the time haha) she said I was still covered so I may have to follow up and see if it applies to the UK as well…
i did my seat allocation when i picked up my tickets, but even if you cant get a seat by the door (coz they always go first) go for an aisle seat. I wish id listened to everyone who said that too me lol. not long to go now tho ahe
Yeah I think when I get my seat sorted out I’ll feel better cos I know wot it’s like to sit in the ‘bad’ seats for that amount of time haha. Here’s hoping the travel agent chick sorts it out and gets in quick! I’ve already emailed her twice for an update in the last 3 weeks hahahaha. I’ll be their version of Derek from McGowans M10 hahaha

Send a list of what you are packing to your email so that if your bags go missing *touch wood they dont* you will have a list of what you packed! Send a copy to me if you want so that two people have it.
I didnt need my medical history when i registered with a doc – in fact when i asked for it at the docs all they printed was my blood pressure results each time i got the pill and my weight when i was weighed and that was it. they said it was too much to print off. So ask them but they may not give it. Make sure you register with a doc when you are settled tho as it doesnt cost to visit a doctor here.

Yeah I got my debit card yesterday haha. I got the PIN num and paying in book a couple of days earlier and was like wtf where’s the card! but then Mum rang me at work yesterday to say it had arrived and could she open it…. Hell No! was my response haha it was soooooooo cool to get home and open it but I had to wait til I got home after the speedway cos I went straight from work so didn’t get home til midnight! I was showing it off at work – “You’re such a wee loser!” was Penny’s response hehehe.
Yeah good idea about the list of what’s packed…. you’re just full of them aren’t ya!
